JV, Varsity speakers win Wausa Invitational

Both the Junior Varsity and Varsity Wayne High School Speech teams earned top honors at the Wausa Invitational on Feb. 10.

"This marks perhaps the first time in program history that Wayne won both JV and Varsity team sweepstakes at the same event," said Head Coach Dwaine Spieker.

The following members of the JV Speech Team placed at the Wausa Invitational:

Andrea Olivares-Casillas, seventh in Informative; Sharon Vasquez, fifth in Serious Prose; Alison Sanders, fifth in Poetry; Rachel Holland, fourth in Informative; Hunter Ruwe, fourth in Extemp; Isaiah Yarde, third in Poetry; Dean Young, third in Humorous; Aleigha Hale, third in  Serious; and the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Aleigha Hale, Andrea Olivares-Casillas, Rachel Holland, Riley Olson, and Ryder Olberding, second. 

Ryder Olberding also led the JV team by finishing in  first place in Humorous.

On the Varsity side, the following Blue Devil speakers medaled:

Ceilus Ibarra, sixth in Serious; Adreinne Anderson, sixth in Persuasive; the Duet Acting team on Grace Junck and Kennasyn Blecke, fifth; Alondra Vega, fifth in Serious; Olivia Hanson, fifth in Persuasive; the Duet of Colby Raulston and Maddie Franta, fourth; the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Adreinne Anderson, Grace Junck, Josie Ley, Kennasyn Blecke, and Nyamalo Kantai, fourth; and Parker Kesting, runner-up in Extemporaneous.

Wayne also saw five event champions crowned:  Colby Raulston in Program Oral Interpretation; Ceilus Ibarra in Poetry; Alec Schaffer in Humorous; the Duet of Alec Shaffer and Aidan Bohnert; and the OID of Aidan Bohnert, Colby Raulston, Gabriel Armstrong, Gavin Anderson, and Johen Piper.

"Next up for the Blue Devils is the Battle Creek Invitational this Saturday, followed by the Mid-State Conference meet at Hartington Cedar Catholic on Saturday, Feb. 24," Spieker said.
