Wayne State throwers Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup shined in the weight throw for the Wildcat men’s indoor track and field teams last weekend at the Frank Sevigne/Husker Invite in Lincoln Friday and the Dakota Alumni Reality Meet, hosted by the University of South Dakota, in Vermillion, S.D., Saturday.
Kalkowski posted back-to-back season best marks in the weight throw, placing fifth Friday in Lincoln with a mark of 65 feet, 3 1/2 inches, and followed that performance with another season-best mark of 66-1 3/4 Saturday to take first place in the event at the South Dakota Meet. Kalkowski’s throws were NCAA provisional marks and his mark Saturday at USD now ranks him sixth in NCAA Div. II.
Kaup notched an eighth-place mark Friday in Lincoln at 61-9 3/4 and produced a best throw of 61-10 1/4 Saturday in Vermillion to take second.
Other Wildcat top performers Saturday at the Dakota Alumni Reality Meet included Aaron English, who tied for sixth in the high jump; and Preston Davis, who recorded an 11th-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 53.83 seconds.
In women’s action, Mckenzie Scheil posted NCAA provisional marks in the weight throw and shot put to lead Wayne State.
Scheil started her weekend taking third in the weight throw at the Husker Invite in Lincoln on Friday with a mark of 61-1 1/2. Saturday in Vermillion, the sophomore won the weight throw at 62-2 and later took second in the shot put with a mark of 47-0 1/4. Scheil’s effort in the weight throw now ranks fourth in NCAA Div. II while her NCAA provisional mark in the shot put now sits 13 in NCAA Div. II.
Kenzie Sullivan had a solid day Saturday at the South Dakota Open, taking second in the weight throw (56-7 1/2) and fifth in the shot put at 45-6 1/2, an NCAA provisional mark.
Jordyn Pester collected a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:00.21), Ali Dykman cleared 5’ 2 1/2 to place eighth in the high jump with Hanna Lazure right behind in ninth at 5-0 3/4. Mikayla Marvin finished 10th in the pole vault, clearing 11-2 1/4.
Wayne State’s next meet is Friday at the Concordia Invite in Seward.
