Kern Track is receiving an update by Fisher Tracks.
This company built Kern Track when it was new. The group started the week of August 18 by cleaning the track with a walk behind blower to get rid of all debris, filled any cracks to the tracks surface and then used a polyurethane primer to assure proper adhesion.
On August 25, they put down two layers of structural polyurethane coating to the track. This will make the track softer and more responsive. They will be doing the runways as well for all of the jumps.
Another crew is expected to come through to paint in a week to finish everything up. Total cost of the project is around $87,000.
Wayne Community Schools athletic director/junior high principal Dave Wragge said, "with us hosting multiple track meets a year, as well as the Mid State conference track meet this year we thought it was a good time to freshen everything up."
