Kirk D. Sommerfeld, 65, of Wayne, died Thursday Oct. 17, 2024 at a Sioux City, Iowa Hospital.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at First United Methodist Church in Wayne. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at First United Methodist Church in Wayne.
Memorials may be directed to the Sommerfeld family for later designation.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Kirk Daniel Sommerfeld was born June 15, 1959 to Roy Harry and Helen Wilhelmina (Steffen) Sommerfeld in Wayne. He was a Wayne High School graduate. Kirk and Ardie Marie Barker were married August 13, 1983 at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne. They were life-long Wayne residents where Kirk worked at Bill’s GW and Koplin Auto Supply. For the next 35 years, Kirk worked at Great Dane Trailers, retiring on June 15, 2024. He was a former member of the Wayne Jaycees, a classic car enthusiast, and coordinated the Wayne Chicken Show Crowing Motors Car Show.
Survivors include his wife, Ardie; daughters, Blair Sommerfeld of Omaha and McKenzie (Jon) Surber of Wayne; two grandchildren, Sawyer Sommerfeld and Wesson Surber; a sister, Cynthia Jorgensen of Wayne; brother, Ed Sommerfeld of Seward; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Emal of Seward and Judy (Dennis) Sloup of Seward; mother-in-law, Erma Barker of Wayne; sisters-in-law, Erma (Craig) Johnson of Bridgeport, Pat Ourada (Dale Larsen) of Funk, Kelly (Duane) Witt of Wayne; brother-in-law, Roy (Tammy) Barker of Blair; uncles; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; step-mother; father-in-law; a brother, Jim; and a brother-in-law, Rodney Jorgensen.
