Annie Kniesche struck out 11 Lakeview batters and gave up only a bunt single as Wayne posted an 8-0 shutout of Columbus Lakeview in softball action Tuesday at the Summer Sports Complex.
Wayne got on the board in the second when Jamie Gamble lashed a leadoff triple and scored on an Abby Ankeny single. They broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning, with Gamble scoring on a passed ball and Ankeny scored after Josie Thompson reached on a fielder’s choice. Dorey would also come home on the error and Sidney Biggerstaff capped the inning with a two-run single, scoring Thompson and Kennedy Maly.
Wayne finished things off on the eight-run rule in the fifth when Jenna Trenhaile singled, scoring Masyn Dorey and Thompson with the game-ending runs to improve Wayne’s record to 10-2.
Maly and Gamble each had two hits to pace a 10-hit effort for the Blue Devils. Trenhaile and Biggerstaff each had two RBI’s and Gamble, Dorey and Thompson each scored two runs.
Kniesche allowed only a leadoff bunt single in the fourth inning to get the win. She struck out seven of the first nine she faced and finished with 11 strikeouts and one walk in the one-hit shutout.
Wayne plays at Tekamah-Herman on Thursday and will be in the Omaha Mercy Invitational on Saturday.
