The Wayne High softball team cracked the 20-win plateau in outstanding fashion Thursday, as Tori Kniesche threw her seventh no-hitter and Jenna Trenhaile launched a three-run homer to help Wayne to a 9-0 road win at Wisner-Pilger on Thursday.
Kniesche was one batter short of a perfect game as she fanned 13 and walked one to record her seventh no-hitter of the season. Opposing teams’ batting average against the sophomore hurler dropped to .094 after Thursday’s win.
By comparison, Wayne’s bats had no problems getting going. They put up five runs in the first thanks to an RI triple by Kennedy Maly and an RBI double by Annie Kniesche. Sidney Biggerstaff added an RBI on a groundout, Jamie Gamble had an RBI single and Gamble later scored on an error to make it 5-0.
Trenhaile hit a one-out bomb the opposite way over the right field fence in the fourth inning, scoring Kayla Fleming and Masyn Dorey, who both singled. Wayne scored another run in the fifth when Gamble came home on a Gator fielding error.
Dorey had three hits and scored two runs and Maly and Gamble each had two hits to highlight Wayne’s 13-hit attack. Gamble scored twice and Trenhaile had three RBI’s.
The 20-2 Blue Devils play in the Adams Central Invitational on Saturday.
