Kniesche twirls no-no in 8-0 shutout of Lakeview

The Wayne High Blue Devils improved to 8-3 on the season with an 8-0 shutout of Columbus Lakeview on Tuesday as senior Tori Kniesche tossed a no-hitter.

The senior hurler set down 15 of the 16 batters she faced via strikeout, needing just 57 pitches to complete the no-hitter.

The Blue Devils scored in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Brooklyn Kruse, scoring Kayla Fleming, then unloaded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game.

Brianna Nissen got the big inning started when she reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a passed ball. Taytum Sweetland followed with a two-run single to score Aliah Schulz and Nicole Fertig to make it 4-0.

Later in the inning, Kniesche was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home Sweetland. A bases-loaded walk to Kruse scored Amara Hurlbert and Nissen’s second trip to the plate ended with a two-run single to right, scoring Fleming and Hailey Schroeder.

Lakeview’s leadoff hitter reached on an error to start the fifth inning and end hopes for a perfect game. Kniesche followed with three straight strikeouts to end the game.

Fleming scored two runs for the Blue Devils while Kruse, Nissen and Sweetland each had two RBI’s.

Wayne plays in the Omaha Mercy Invitational on Saturday.
