A battle between a 1-0 and 0-1 Senior American Legion baseball teams took to a northeast Nebraska diamond Saturday evening.
Back at Neligh Park – Anderson Field in West Point, #1 Rolling Hills Supply Post 43 Wayne looked to knock out #4 Bank of the Valley Post 283 (Columbus Lakeview).
Post 283 had other plans thanks to a four-run seventh inning to win 4-3 over Wayne. Rolling Hills Supply fell to 22-3.
Wayne scored two runs in the first inning. Following four scoreless innings, Post 43 added one more run in the sixth to lead 3-0. Columbus Lakeview then produced four runs in the top of the seventh to hold onto the 4-3 win despite being outhit, 8-7.
Gavin Redden singled, doubled and scored; Jaxson Kneifl singled twice and scored as Alex Rodriguez doubled and drove in a run. Aiden Liston singled and drove in a run as Kaleb Moormeier and Adrian Contreras both singled.
Liston (30 pitches) suffered the loss in the final inning allowing four earned runs off two hits while striking out one batter, walking three and hitting one. Redden (56) started the opening four and two-thirds allowing four hits while striking out four batters. Contreras (26) pitched an inning and a third allowing one hit while striking out and walking one batter each.
Earlier in the day, #5 Twin River Titans Post 263/144 eliminated #6 O’Neill Pinnacle Bank Post 93, 9-4 while in the battle of 1-0 teams, the host #2 West Point Post 70 won 2-0 over #3 Battle Creek Post 75. West Point earns a bye with their Saturday victory and will next play on Monday, July 29.
