Larry R. Haase was born July 22, 1939, on the family farm near Carroll to Henry Francis and Regina Elaine (Shannon) Haase. As a teenager, before graduation, Larry became a Golden Glove boxing champion. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1957 and then entered the U.S. Navy. He was a machinist mate on the Destroyer USS Walker stationed out of Pearl Harbor. This was after the Korean war and before the Vietnam war.

Larry met the love of his life, Emily Schulz and they married Jan.  22, 1966. This union blessed the couple with three sons.

Larry loved the automotive world. For fun he raced drag cars; A 1934 Ford, a 1940 Willys Coupe and a 1968 Camaro with friends Dick Korn and Butch Carlson which were known as KCH Racing. Larry was most known as the auto parts salesman from Koplin Auto Parts and then Big A Auto Parts/Car Quest until he retired in 2013. Larry loved to load up his largest vehicle with his own used auto parts and attend Lincoln, Fremont and Wahoo swap meets as a frequent vendor. Larry was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department.

Larry was a true testament of strength. He was a survivor of five different cancers. He loved his family whole heartedly and will be greatly missed by all.

Larry is survived by Emily, his wife just short of 60 years; sons and their families: Rick and Mindy, Kierah and Kash of Wayne; Dan and Amy,  August and Abigail of Omaha; and Nick of Wayne; sister, Dee Witek of Rhode Island; brothers, Vince (Kris) Haase of Neola, Iowa and Steve (Stephanie) Haase of Norfolk; sisters-in-law, LaRene Miller of Wayne and Irma Schulz of Lincoln.
