Laurel 14U softball team crowned state champions

Following a weekend of softball, the Laurel 14U girls took the State Championship on Sunday in games played in Hastings.

In the first game on Saturday morning, Laurel took on Cozad: and earned a 13-0 victory.

Saturday afternoon's game saw Laurel pick up a 12-11 win over  Creighton.

Moving into Sunday morning, Laurel went up against Battle Creek, a team that was also undefeated.

Laurel lost 2-3,  putting them into the losers bracket

The team then played McCook beating them 12-6.

This led to the team having to battle undefeated Battle Creek again. The final saw Laurel winning 10-4.

That resulted in a rematch with Battle Creek for the Championship. This time Laurel defeated Battle Creek by a score of  10-5.

The Laurel team was crowned the 14U Class D State Champions for 2024.

The team is coached by Brian Gould and Ali Kvols.

According to records, the last time this happened was in 2006.
