Bears, Blue Devils on the links Saturday

With a third outing in five days where the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Wayne High girls golf programs will be in action, the LCC Invite showcased 11 varsity and JV teams on Sept. 27.

The host Bears placed fourth with a 404 and were led by Harper Bruning shooting a 90 to finish fourth along with an 11th place finish by Danica Gould shooting a 98.

Other LCC results came from  Kennedy Hall who took 19th (107), Alyza Leonard placed 21st (109) and Holly Patefield rounded out varsity scoring in 29th (119).

In JV action, Mavis Jonas was the top golfer with a 110 followed by Stella Kock (111).

Wayne High finished third in the team standings with a 395.

Head Blue Devil girls golf coach Josh Johnson said, "the heat was on again as the weather provided a beautiful day for a late September tournament. The course proved to play fast with thicker than anticipated roughs."

The Top Blue Devil medalist was Hallie Heithold in third with an 89.

Rylynn Owen carded a 94 to place fifth followed by Carli Canham in sixth with a 94.

Claire Reinke rounded out varsity scoring with a 118.

In JV action, Avery Gubbels shot a 145 followed by Damaris Reyes with a 149.

Coach Johnson added, "the girls keep battling and are really coming together as we enter Conference week. Our team score is staying pretty consistent and that is what we need as Conference and Districts are right around the corner. So proud of how much these girls have grown this season. Next 10 days should be a lot of fun."

Grace Ankeny from Tri County Northeast represented the Wolfpack with a 108 to finish 20th.

West Holt held off Battle Creek (376-382) in the team standings to win the LCC Invite.

Daleni Knust from West Holt shot the low round of the day with a 79.

Both Wayne and LCC girls golf programs will travel to the Hartington Country Club on Monday, September 29 at 9 a.m.
