Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Allen will be in the hunt for a state title after both teams qualified for the playoffs, with brackets announced Saturday morning by the Nebraska Schools Activities Association.
The Bears, 4-4, earned the No. 10 seed in the Class D-1 bracket and will play at No. 7 seed Fullerton (6-2) on Thursday evening. The winner advances to face either No. 2 Exeter-Milligan-Friend or No. 15 East Butler in the second round. If LCC wins their first-round game, they would host the EMF/East Butler winner in the second round on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
Allen is the No. 7 seed in the Class D-2 bracket and will host No. 10 Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday. The two teams have already met this season, with the Eagles beating the Pirates 24-6. The winner will face either No. 2 Johnson-Brock or No. 15 Pender in the second round. An Allen win would send them on the road regardless of the opponent.
The playoffs continue through the championship round, set for Monday, Nov. 19 at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
