LCC basketball building momentum early

A trio of games were played to start the season for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys basketball.

The LCC girls started the year with a 52-37 home loss (Dec. 5) to Crofton, followed by a 62-52 road loss at West Holt (Dec. 6) and recently won 59-58 in Laurel against Homer (Dec. 9). The Bears are 1-2 on the season.

The LCC boys first lost 71-63 to Crofton before winning 61-42 over West Holt and also won 63-48 in Laurel against Homer. The Bears now sit 2-1.

In girls action, Kaida Eriksen averaged 17.5 ppg and hit a team-high four three-pointers while Rena Rasmussen averaged 11 ppg and grabbed a team-high 13 total rebounds (first two games). Rasmussen also went 11-14 at the foul line, dished out five total assists and recorded nine steals. 

Carlie Kvols grabbed 12 total rebounds over the weekend and tacked on three blocks.

Scoring leaders from Dec. 9 were Eriksen (23) and Rasmussen (18).

During boys competition, Cade Johnson controlled scoring averaging of 23.5 ppg along with Drey Puppe (11.5 ppg) during the first two games. Johnson knocked down four three-pointers and grabbed 14 total rebounds as Puppe recorded seven steals.

Other double figure leaders were Tanner Thompson (11 pts) against Crofton and Dayton Korth (13 pts) at West Holt. Korth also had 14 total rebounds and 10 assists.

Scoring leaders from Dec. 9 were Puppe (20) and Johnson (12).

The LCC basketball teams will next travel to Emerson on Dec. 12 to visit Tri County Northeast (JV starts at 4 p.m.) and also host Ponca on Dec. 16 (JV begins at 4:30 p.m.).
