PENDER — The LCC boys edged out Lyons-Decatur for the third and final team spot in the D-2 district cross country meet Wednesday at Twin Creeks Golf Club.
The Bears had two boys finish in the top 15 to give them 52 points, one better than the Cougars’ 53. Norfolk Catholic (11) won the district title with Homer (50) finishing second. (Class D scores the first three runners for a team score, compared to four in Class C.)
Tyler Olson led the Bears with a sixth-place time of 17:48.18, while teammate Preston Rose took 15th in 18:30.46 as the last individual qualifier. Following them were Shane Langford in 31st, Carter Korth in 32nd and Taner Stanley in 69th.
Other area boys runners included Tucker Bruns of Winside (64th) and Tri County NE runners Alex Snyder (47th), Devon Lewellen (60th) and Sean Lawrence (73rd).
In girls action, Tri County Northeast finished fifth and LCC was seventh, but both teams will have individual runners competing at state.
For the Wolfpack, Bre Millard finished ninth in a time of 21:21.56 and Alejandra Hermosillo was 14th in 21:51.49 as both qualified for state. Teammates Rhyanne Mackling and Jenni Olson were 25th and 39th, respectively, and Shantel Miller placed 43rd.
Faith Galvin will represent the Lady Bears after placing 15th in 21:56.22. She was followed by Abbie Brummels in 18th, Kate Tasler in 21st and Addy Hoeppner in 29th.
Winside also competed and finished 12th as a team. Running for the Wildcat girls were Miley Gnirk in 40th, Megan Gnirk in 47th and Stephanie Naeve in 50th
The State Cross Country Championships are set for Friday, Oct. 20 at the Kearney Country Club.
