Friday night lights returned to a northeast Nebraska community where Laurel-Concord-Coleridge hosted Guardian Angels Central Catholic (West Point) on August 29.
The visiting Bluejays used consistent scoring to defeat LCC, 21-8. The Bears start their season at 0-1.
After falling behind 21-0 in the third quarter, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge put their lone points on the board in the third quarter.
Junior Kyle Rasmussen hauled in a 10-yard touchdown from sophomore quarterback Drey Puppe.
Rasmussen also ran in the two-point conversion and totaled four grabs for 22 yards.
Puppe finished 12-19 with 104 yards while recording one touchdown and one interception. He also ran the ball 11 times for 31 yards (long of 16).
Senior Tyler Boysen led the receiving core with four receptions for 38 yards (long of 13) and was next in the rushing department with two carries for 10 yards.
Junior Tanner Thompson added two catches for 26 yards (long of 22).
Sophomore Dayton Korth posted a team-high 13 tackles (seven solo) including one tackle for loss to lead the LCC defense.
Tanner Thompson followed with nine tackles (five solo) and a tackle for loss as senior Kolten Settje (six solo) and Puppe (five solo) both tallied seven tackles. Puppe also had a fumble recovery.
Junior Ian Sohler also had two tackles for loss off his four tackles (three solo).
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will next visit Pender on Friday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
