LCC ends season as district runner-up

One match stood in the way of district qualifying volleyball teams towards their chance at advancing to the 2024 NSAA State Championships.

From Battle Creek, the C1-8 District final showcased #8 Battle Creek vs. #9 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Saturday.

After splitting early sets, Battle Creek picked up the four set victory over LCC. The Bears end their season at 28-5 while the host Bravettes advanced to state at 24-9.

Earlier this season on Aug. 29 in West Point, Battle Creek won 2-1 in a triangular match over LCC.

Scores of Saturday’s match favored Battle Creek 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15.

Sophomore Rena Rasmussen recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 15 digs to go along with three solo blocks; sophomore Carlie Kvols added a double-double with 33 assists and 19 digs along with two kills as sophomore Kaida Eriksen led LCC in digs with 22 and six kills.

Junior Tyler Recob followed with six kills and 14 digs; senior Tali Erwin tallied five kills and five digs; senior Lainey Schutte tacked on two kills, 17 digs and a solo block as sophomore Justice Olson (11 digs) and freshman Taelynn Settje (one dig)  both had one kill. Other digs came from senior Baylie Graf (11).

Schutte finished with two service aces.
