For just the second time all season, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys basketball teams played in front of the home crowd.
From Laurel, LCC welcomed Elkhorn Valley during a regular season Greater Northeast Activities Conference meeting on Tuesday.
The LCC girls suffered an 80-52 loss while the LCC boys lost 56-34 against the visiting Falcons.
In the girls game, Elkhorn Valley led early with a 22-16 first quarter before adding to their lead with an 18-12 second quarter to go up 40-28 at the break. The visiting Falcons outscored LCC, 22-11 in the third and 18-13 in the fourth. Final favored Elkhorn Valley winning 80-52 moving to 10-0 as the Bears dropped their fourth straight falling to 5-6.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge leaders were sophomore Rena Rasmussen with 22 points while fellow sophomore Kaida Eriksen added 17 points (four made three’s).
Other scoring came from sophomore Hattie McCorkindale with five points, sophomores Carlie Kvols and Justice Olson both tallied three points as junior Tyler Recob scored two points.
The Bears shot 5-10 from the foul line.
LCC girls head basketball coach Marcus Messersmith said they had a big focus on stopping the inside game. The Falcons countered by making 10 three’s. Karlee Broberg scored 42 points on eight made three’s.
During the boys outing, Elkhorn Valley led early at 15-9 in the first quarter before extending their lead with a 13-5 second to go up 28-14 at the break. The visiting Falcons then outscored LCC, 16-13 in the third and 12-7 in the fourth. Final favored Elkhorn Valley winning 56-34 to improve to 7-2 as the Bears have now dropped six straight falling to 4-6.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was led by senior Gibson Roberts with nine points while six-point scoring came from senior Eli Haisch, sophomore Tanner Thompson and sophomore Cade Johnson.
Other scoring came from senior Connor Korth with five points as senior Caleb Erwin scored two points.
The Bears finished 2-4 at the charity stripe.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys will next visit Cedar Catholic on Thursday, January 9.
