LCC girls finish seventh, boys take fourth at Homer Invite

Two days after competing in Wayne, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys track & field program was back to work during another area invite.

From Homer, LCC competed amongst nine girls and 11 boys teams during the Homer Invite on Thursday which featured several from the tri-state area.

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls finished seventh with 21 points while the LCC boys took fourth with 62 points.

In the girls division, Dakota Valley (SD) won the invite with 126 points, Wisner-Pilger followed in runner-up (88), Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) took third (86), the host Homer placed fourth (80) and Kingsley-Pierson (IA) rounded out the top five teams with 68 points.

Tali Erwin posted a fifth place finish in the high jump (5′).

In relays, the 4×400 of Hattie McCorkindale, Kate Tasler, Erwin and Carlie Kvols placed runner-up (4:30.85), the 4×800 of Faith Galvin, Erwin, Kvols and Kate Tasler came in third (14:04.6), the 800-meter sprint medley of Grace Galvin, Laney Folkers, McCorkindale and Jolynn Kinkaid took fourth (2:09.47) and the 4×100 of Hattie McCorkindale, Laney Folkers, Grace Galvin and Kinkaid placed sixth (56.42).

During the boys division, the host Homer won the invite with 83 points, Westwood/Sloan (IA) followed in runner-up (80.5), Kingsley-Pierson (IA) took third (69), Laurel-Concord-Coleridge placed fourth (62) and Dakota Valley (SD) rounded out the top five teams with 60 points.

Drey Puppy continues to dominate the hurdle races winning the 110-meter hurdles (14.58) and placed runner-up in the 300-metre hurdles (41.23) losing by less than a tenth of a second. He also tied for third in the high jump (5′ 6″).

The Bears claimed the top two spots in the pole vault both tying for first being Weston Patefield and Dayton Korth (8′).

Ian Sohler finished fourth in the triple jump (35′ 2″), followed by Korth in fifth (34′ 9 1/2″) and Josiah Tasler in sixth (32′ 10″).

In the throws category, Jaylen Carpenter took third in the shot put (42′ 6″).

In relays, the 4×400 of Hunter Benson, Sohler, Josiah Tasler and Shane Langford collected a fourth place medal (4:07.31) as did the 4×800 of Carter Korth, Hunter Benson, Sebastian Van Drongelen (12:48.58).
