Ahead of their respective conference tournaments beginning, two northeast Nebraska basketball programs took to the court late in the week.
From the main gym in Wakefield, the Trojans hosted Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Thursday.
The LCC girls won 57-37 while the Wakefield boys picked up a 45-35 victory.
In the girls game, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge built a 16-5 first quarter lead followed by a 17-9 second quarter to go up 33-14 at the break. LCC added to their lead thanks to a 14-5 third as the host Trojans won the fourth, 18-10. Final favored Laurel-Concord-Coleridge winning 57-37 to improve to 9-10 winning back-to-back games as Wakefield drooped their third straight falling to 3-15.
LCC leaders were sophomore Rena Rasmussen with 20 points, sophomore Carlie Kvols added 14 points, sophomore Kaida Eriksen followed with 13 points as senior Lainey Schutte closed out scoring with 10 points.
Wakefield was led in scoring by sophomore Boston Brown with 12 points as fellow sophomore Montse Avila added 10 points. Junior Ashlyn Riewer tallied eight points while senior Alli Brown finished with seven points.
During the boys outing, Wakefield jumped ahead 16-9 followed with a 10-6 advantage in the second quarter to go up 26-15 at the break. LCC chipped away with a 15-7 third as the host Trojans won the fourth, 12-5. Final favored Wakefield winning 45-35 to win their seventh straight to improve to 10-7 as LCC dropped their third straight falling to 6-12.
Wakefield leaders were senior Jesse Lundahl and junior Jacob Borg both with 12 points.
Other scoring came from junior Jacob Birkley with seven points, junior Cael Johnson added six points, junior Brandon Paredes tallied four points as two-point scoring came from senior Timothy Kaufman and junior Benny Palma.
LCC was led in scoring by senior Gibson Roberts with 15 points.
Other scoring came from senior Eli Haisch and freshman Drey Puppe both with six points, sophomore Cade Johnson added five points for the Bears as senior Caleb Erwin scored three points.
