LCC girls put up a fight with undefeated Elkhorn Valley

A trip to the Greater Northeast Activities Conference championship game was on the line for the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls basketball team.

Back in Tilden, #4 LCC took on the host #1 Elkhorn Valley on Thursday.

The Bears suffered a 46-42 loss against the host Falcons.

During the girls only contest, LCC led 12-9 after the opening quarter while the Falcons answered with a 16-7 second quarter to lead 25-19 at half. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge regained the lead thanks to a 13-5 third quarter as Elkhorn Valley won the fourth, 16-10. Final favored Elkhorn Valley winning 46-42 to improve to 19-0 as LCC fell to 10-11 having a three-game winning streak snapped.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was led in scoring by sophomore Rena Rasmussen with 18 points while fellow sophomore Kaida Eriksen added 12 points.

Other scoring came from sophomore Carlie Kvols with eight points as sophomore Hattie McCorkindale tallied four points.

The Bears finished 7-8 from the foul line.

Elkhorn Valley leaders were senior JJ Black with 18 points as sophomore Cameron Rutjens tallied 12 points going 6-8 from the line.

The Falcons shot 9-13 at the charity stripe.
