LCC girls win Battle Creek Invite led by Tasler; six area medalists

A trio of Wayne Herald area cross country programs were in action Oct. 3 with varsity 5k and JH 3k races.

From Evergreen Golf Course in Battle Creek, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Wakefield and Winside took to the course.

The LCC girls won their division with 31 points while the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys took fourth (68).

The Wakefield girls scored 97 points to round out the six-team division while no scoring was posted by the Wakefield boys.

No team scoring was posted for Winside cross country.

In the girls division, LCC's senior Kate Tasler crossed the line first in a time of 21:31.03 (nearly 30 seconds ahead of second place). Sophomore Leah Gould earned a fifth place medal (22:25.44) and junior Faith Galvin rounded out the top 15 (23:28.19).

Other results for the Bears were posted by senior Addy Hoeppner (20th - 24:12.65), sophomore Ava Christiansen (27th - 24:54.42) and junior Abbie Brummels (41st - 26:31.44).

Wakefield's junior Jamie Lopez collected a 13th place medal in 23:16.79.

Other Trojan results came from junior Angie Gomez (42nd - 26:34.63), junior Jennifer Hernandez (44th - 27:11.56), junior Natalie Zuniga Hernandez (45th - 27:54.64) and sophomore Katelyn Walsh (47th - 28:48.09).

Freshman Avery Brummels finished 10th to lead Winside in 23:00.19.

Other Wildcat results were posted by junior Aleah Bilstein (17th - 23:52.77) and freshman Leah Uttecht (36th - 26:02.55).

In the JH girls race, Winside eighth grader MaKenna Thies took 22nd (15:18.29) as eighth grader Phebe Uttecht finished 35th (18:06.72).

Again, LCC won the girls division with 31 points followed by Homer in second (38). There were 50 girls varsity runners.

During the boys division, senior Shane Langford from LCC earned a 12th place medal in 19:14.61 while freshman Owen Johnson just missed a medal in 16th (19:52.14).

Other results for the Bears were posted by sophomore Sebastian Van Drongelen (26th - 21:03.33), junior Hunter McGee (34th - 21:42.87), junior Luke Jackson (54th - 25:18.7), junior Dillion Sanderson (55th - 25:19.1) and senior Oscar Salas (60th - 28:34.15).

Wakefield results came from junior William Benson (22nd - 20:40.61) and junior Baldwin Garcia (43rd - 23:11.58).

Winside's lone runner was junior Ben Uttecht (58th - 28:04.11).

In the JH boys race, seventh grader Rei Shan Sinder from Winside finished 28th (21:16.55).

Norfolk Catholic edged the host Battle Creek (20-29) in the team standings. Junior Miles Clausen from Battle Creek won the boys varsity 5k in a time of 17:16.33 among the 62 runners.

Winside will have junior high runners competing at the Pierce JH Invite set for Oct. 7 starting at 7:15 p.m. from Pierce Community Golf course.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is off until Oct. 9 during the GNAC meet hosted by Summerland starting at 4 p.m.

Wakefield will send their runners to the East Husker Conference meet held on Oct. 9 starting at 4:30 p.m. at Northridge Country Club in Tekamah.

Winside varsity runners will next compete in the Lewis and Clark Conference meet set for Oct. 10 starting at 4 p.m. at Rolling Hills Country Club hosted by Wausa/Bloomfield.
