LCC gives up 24 points in fourth, falls to 1-4

Ahead of two straight road outings, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge football team competed against another district opponent.

From Laurel, the Bears entertained Elkhorn Valley during a Class D1 eight-man showdown on Friday, Sept. 27.

A 24-point fourth quarter led the visiting Falcons to a come-from-behind victory of 46-32. Elkhorn Valley is now 3-2 on the season while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge fell to 1-4.

LCC began scoring thanks to a 49-yard run from Connor Korth (two-point conversion failed) to lead 7-0.

After Elkhorn Valley took an 8-6 lead the Bears would score once more in the first quarter from a defensive stop forcing a safety to be tied at 8-8 off a Cade Johnson tackle.

Second quarter favored the Bears on scores from Connor Korth to Kyle Rasmussen from seven yards out along with a 17-yard run by Eli Haisch. Korth found Drey Puppe on the first two-point try followed by Korth running in for two points to put the Bears up 24-8 at the half.

Following back-to-back Elkhorn Valley scores and failed extra points during the third quarter, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge used a 33-yard touchdown run by Haisch. Kolten Settje ran in the two-point try to put LCC in front 32-22.

In the fourth, it was all Elkhorn Valley. The Falcons posted four touchdowns (one pass/two run/one pick six) with one successful PAT totaling 24 points.

Final favored Elkhorn Valley winning 46-32.

LCC’s Connor Korth was 8-16 for 82 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Korth also ran the ball 13 times for 107 yards with one score.

Eli Haisch followed with 22 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns along with one catch for 14 yards. Caleb Erwin hauled in four receptions for 41 yards and ran the ball 11 times for 36 yards. Kyle Rasmussen added two catches for 15 yards and one score.

  LCC finished with 256 rushing yards on 47 carries.

Connor Korth led the team in tackles with 10 (nine solo) along with one tackle for loss. Ryder Jelinek followed with seven tackles (six solo), one tackle for loss and one sack as Cade Johnson also recorded a TFL and sack for three tackles (two solo). Rasmussen tacked on two solo tackles with one TFL along with Aric Hall adding a tackle for loss.

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge football team will be on the road the next two of three weeks. LCC will first visit Plainview on Friday, Oct. 4.
