LCC Middle School receives donation

On Jan. 14 the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Middle School received a phone call from Caelan Debban from News Channel Nebraska/US92 informing them their video had been chosen to receive a $500 "Stretch Across Nebraska"donation.

In December, the middle school learned about the "Stretch Across Nebraska" challenge from News Channel Nebraska/US92 and Medica inviting people to send a video or photo of their healthy activity such as their morning stretch, kids on the playground, seniors in an exercise class, or even walking their dog. Once a week, News Channel Nebraska/US92 and Medica would select a winning submission to highlight, and that person will have a donation made, in their name, of $500 to the school of their choice.

Thanks to the digital media skills of seventh grader Caden Barnes, the middle school produced a video displaying a number of our students out on the playground partaking in a game of gaga ball, which was built by several of our students through the assistance of a Coleridge Area Community Fund grant.

Calen and his associate, Becca Arkfeld, from US92 came to the LCC Middle School on Jan. 16 to interview Middle School Principal Mark Leonard and Caden Barnes about their video submission, to learn more about the middle school, and of course, to partake in a game of gaga ball with our students.

The $500 donation will be used to furnish additional recess balls, build a tetherball apparatus on the playground, and purchase additional supplies for a makerspace area at the school.

The interview can be viewed on the LCC Facebook page.

"Thank you to News Channel Nebraska/US92 and Medica for their donation and generosity to our school," Mr. Leonard said.
