LCC produces 20 points in first quarter, Summerland scores late

With one final regular season road game on the eight-man football schedule, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge welcomed their second straight opponent in a matter of weeks.

From Laurel, LCC lost 30-26 against Summerland. The Bobcats scored the go-ahead touchdown with 4:45 left in the game.

The Bears (2-5) have now dropped three straight while Summerland (5-2) is on a two-game winning streak.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was forced to comeback after trailing 17-0 in the first quarter.

LCC used a four-yard run from junior Ian Sohler (PAT good), junior Cade Johnson recorded a 10-yard scoop and score by the defense (PAT good) and sophomore Paxton Hoeppner connected with junior Talon Carson on an eight-yard strike (failed two-point conversion).

LCC led 20-17 at the end of the high-scoring first quarter.

Neither team scored in the second quarter as LCC then extended their lead in the third thanks to a 24-yard run from sophomore Drey Puppe (failed PAT) to lead 26-17.

Summerland produced seven points in the third quarter and won the game in the fourth (both rushing touchdowns with one made PAT, one failed two-point conversion).

Final favored the Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard co-op holding onto the 30-26 win.

Paxton Hoeppner finished 19-34 for 157 yards (long of 35) with one passing touchdown and one interception. He added seven rushes for 36 yards (long of 16).

Puppe led the rushing attack on nine carries for 65 yards (long of 28) and one score to go along with nine receptions for 86 yards (long of 35). He was 1-2 for -2 passing yards and 2-2 on PATs.

Sohler scored on the ground thanks to 21 yards on seven attempts.

Carson hauled in eight passes for 70 yards (long of 16) and one score.

Senior Kolten Settje also had three carries for five yards.

Settje led the Bears with 14 tackles (five solo) and a tackle for loss along with Paxson Hoeppner with 11 tackles (six solo).

Sophomore Luke Erwin added six tackles (five solo) and two tackles for loss.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will close out their regular season at Stanton (2-5) on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
