Northeast Nebraska high school basketball took over Tuesday night for the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys basketball teams.
From Laurel, the Bears played host to Hartington-Newcastle.
The LCC girls picked up a 68-51 victory while the LCC boys secured a 56-44 win against the visiting Wildcats.
In the girls game, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge recorded their second straight victory improving to 7-9 as Hartington-Newcastle fell to 9-6 having a two-game winning streak snapped.
LCC leaders were sophomore Kaida Eriksen with 23 points thanks to five three-pointers, fellow sophomore Rena Rasmussen with 19 points as junior Camryn Sohler added 11 points on three made three’s. Other scoring came from sophomore Carlie Kvols with eight points, sophomore Hattie McCorkindale tacked on five points as senior Lainey Schutt scored two points.
The Bears also shot 13-17 from the foul line.
Head LCC girls basketball coach Marcus Messersmith said, “we did a really good job defensively on their two best players holding them well below their averages.”
During the boys outing, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has now won back-to-back to improve to 6-9 as the Wildcats fell to 5-9 having a two-game winning streak snapped.
LCC was led in scoring by senior Gibson Roberts with 26 points, senior Eli Haisch added 12 points as sophomore Cade Johnson followed with eight points.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys basketball teams will next host Battle Creek on Thursday, Jan. 23.
