LCC comes up just short in C2 finals

Laurel-Concord last went to state in 2002 earning a Class C2 runner-up finish to go along with appearances in 2001, 2000 (C2 runner-up), 1998, 1997, 1996 (C2 state champion), 1995 (C2 runner-up) and 1994 garnering a record of 10-7 while Coleridge has made two state appearances (2007/2008) going 0-2.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in 2025 has continued to make history each time they've stepped foot on the court making it to state for the first time as LCC.

From the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, #6 LCC suffered a four-set loss to #4 Freeman (23-25, 25-16, 18-25, 27-29).

The Bears (33-4) had their 14-match win streak snapped while the Falcons (29-4) finished on an eight-match win streak as the champion.

In now 19 matches this season decided in a best three-of-five, LCC is 13-0 in 3-0 sweeps, 2-2 in four-set matches and 2-0 in five-set matches. The Bears have gone 77-17 in total sets played.

Freeman recently completed their 18th match decided in best three-of-five sets where they've gong 13-0 in 3-0 sweeps, 4-0 in four-set matches and 0-1 in five-set matches. 

A trio of double-doubles were posted by  junior Rena Rasmussen (two blocks) with a team-high 17 kills and 15 digs; junior Kaida Eriksen followed with 15 kills and 17 digs as junior Carlie Kvols (four kills) posted 34 assists and 10 digs.

Junior Boston Brown led LCC in digs with 19 and added two kills.

Senior Tyler Recob tallied 13 digs, six kills and a block.

Sophomore Taelynn Settje tacked on seven digs, senior Laney Folkers finished with a kill and a dig as junior Hattie McCorkindale totaled a dig.

The Bears hit .151 on the match while Freeman recorded a .157 hitting percentage.

LCC finished with six service aces (10 errors) being recorded by Eriksen/Recob (two aces each) and Rasmussen/McCorkindale (one each) compared to the Falcons with eight aces (15 errors).

Again, this marked the first-ever trip to the state volleyball tournament for the Bears as LCC while Freeman was competing in their 16th state tourney (second straight) and were in their eighth state championship match (champions in 2014/C2, 2006/D1, 1999/D1; runners-up in 2013/C2, 2005/D1, 2001/D1, 2000/D1) going 22-12 in the state tourney.

Class C2: #4 Freeman (29-4) won in four sets over #6 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (33-4) (25-23, 16-25, 25-18, 29-27)

Class D1: #1 Amherst (28-5) won in five sets over #2 Overton (28-6) (20-25, 17-25, 25-11, 26-24, 15-11)

Class D2: #1 Wynot (31-4) won in five sets over #3 Cambridge (28-8) (19-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-17, 15-5)

Class C2: #7 Oakland-Craig (30-8) won in four sets over #8 Yutan (22-9) (20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14)

Class D1: #4 Exeter-Milligan/Friend (27-6) swept #6 Shelton (27-7) (25-18. 25-21, 25-18)

Class D2: #2 Sumner-Eddyville-Miller (28-7) won in five sets over #4 Dundy County Stratton (27-8) (25-19. 25-20, 21-25, 20-25, 15-7)
