LCC volleyball splits season opening road triangular

A trio of Class C1 volleyball teams began their season on Thursday, August 29 during the West Point-Beemer triangular.

From West Point, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge joined Battle Creek to open the year.

LCC picked up a three-set victory over West Point-Beemer (25-18, 24-26, 28-26) but suffered a three-set loss against the Bravettes (18-25, 25-23, 25-20). LCC is 1-1.

The third match favored Battle Creek who swept the Cadets (25-19, 25-16).

In the victory over West Point-Beemer, sophomore Rena Rasmussen recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 16 digs to go along with one block as sophomore Carlie Kvols added 37 assists and 12 digs along with three kills.

Sophomore Kaida Eriksen also had 16 digs and six blocks.

Junior Tyler Recob added seven kills, five digs and a block; senior Tali Erwin followed with six kills, 11 digs and one block; senior Lainey Schutte tacked on five kills, seven digs and two blocks (one solo) as seniors Avery Hahne also tallied 11 digs and Alexys Hahne with three digs.

Kvols, Erwin, Alexys Hahne and Eriksen all recorded an ace.

During the loss against Battle Creek, Rasmussen led the Bears with 15 kills, six digs and one block as Kvols recorded a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs. Avery Hahne posted a team-high 12 digs.

Erwin added five kills, six digs and two blocks (one solo); Eriksen tallied two kills and six digs; Recob had two kills and three digs; Schutte tallied one kill and six digs. Alexys Hahne had two digs.

Rasmussen had the lone service ace.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was to visit Ponca on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
