LCC volleyball wins Hartington-Newcastle Invite, Winside goes 1-2

Area volleyball play took over a northeast Nebraska gymnasium on Saturday.

From Hartington-Newcastle, the HNS Wildcats welcomed several teams during their home invite including Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Winside.

LCC picked up 2-0 sweeps over North Central (25-5, 25-6), Hartington-Newcastle (25-16, 25-14) and Tri County Northeast (25-16, 25-18). Laurel-Concord-Coleridge improved to 23-3 on the season.

Winside picked up a 2-1 win over Madison, before falling 2-1 against Tri County Northeast and 2-0 with Hartington-Newcastle. Winside is now 9-8 on the season.

In the win over North Central, sophomore Rena Rasmussen recorded seven kills, two digs and one block; sophomore Carlie Kvols posted 13 assists, two digs and one kill as sophomore Kaida Eriksen led the team in digs with three to go along with three kills.

Senior Tali Erwin (two digs/one block) and junior Tyler Recob (one dig) both followed with three kills as senior Lainey Schutte added one kill, one dig and a solo block. Other digs came from senior Baylie Graf (one).

Erwin finished with 10 service aces; Rasmussen tallied four aces, Eriksen tacked on three aces, Recob added two aces as Schutte had an ace.

During the LCC victory against Hartington-Newcastle, Rasmussen recorded 10 kills and two digs while Kvols posted 20 assists, seven digs and one kill. Erwin also had seven digs to go along with four kills.

Eriksen followed with four kills and five digs; Recob added three kills, one dig and two blocks (one solo) as Schutt tallied two kills, three digs and one block.

Erwin and Schutte both finished with two service aces as Rasmussen had an ace.

From the LCC victory with Tri County Northeast, Rasmussen recorded nine kills, three digs and three blocks (one solo); Kvols posted 14 assists, two digs, three kills and a block as Eriksen led the team in digs with seven to go along with two kills.

Erwin followed with three kills, five digs and a block; Recob added two kills and four digs as Schutte tallied one kill and six digs. Other digs came from Graf (two).

Schutte finished with two service aces while Rasmussen and Eriksen both had an ace.

In the Winside victory over Madison, scores favored Winside 25-16, 24-26, 26-24.

Sophomore Hadleigh Schutt recorded a double-double with 17 assists and 16 digs as freshman Bridget Marotz recorded eight kills, 12 digs and a solo block.

Sophomore Ellie Topp followed with six kills, one dig and a solo block; sophomore Katelyn Jaeger added five kills and 14 digs; junior Jerzi Carlson tallied four kills, nine digs and a solo block as sophomore Adrianna Miller tacked on two kills. Other digs came from senior Samantha Gubbels (15) and senior Skyler Spann (one) with seven assists.

Schutt and Spann both finished with three service aces; Carlson added two aces as Topp and Marotz both had an ace.

During the Winside loss against Tri County Northeast, scores favored the co-op of Allen/Emerson-Hubbard 25-19, 24-26, 25-19.

Marotz recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs to go along with four blocks; Schutt posted 13 assists, three digs and four kills as Carlson led the team in digs with 14 to go along with one kill and a block.

Topp added four kills and a block, Jaeger tallied three kills, one dig and two blocks as Spann had one kill, four digs and nine assists. Miller tacked on two blocks. Other digs came from Gubbels (eight).

Topp finished with three service aces, Spann added two aces as Carlson had an ace.

From the Winside loss with Hartington-Newcastle, scores favored the host Hartington-Newcastle 25-19, 25-17.

Marotz recorded 10 kills and two digs along with a block as Schutt led the team in both assists and dig, eight each to go along with three kills.

Carlson (four digs) and Topp both added two kills as Jaeger, Miller (one dig/one block) and Spann (one dig/five assists) all had one kill. Other digs came from Gubbels (seven).

Sophomore Raylyn Behmer and Carlson both had a service ace.
