LCC, Wayne girls take home team hardware, several area medalists shine during Wayne Invite

Even with warmer afternoon temperatures, the 119 varsity and 91 junior high girls and boys, gave it their all during the Wayne Invite at the Wayne Country Club on September 15.

The Wayne High girls cross country team finished runner-up with 31 points while the Blue Devil boys took third with 34 points.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won the girls varsity race with 24 points as Norfolk Catholic held off Pierce (20-29) in the boys varsity team standings.

Freshman Tayla Hurner from Wayne was crowned individual champion in a time of 20:32.93 on the girls varsity 5k course among the 45 runners. Other Blue Devil medalists were senior Lilyan Hurner in fifth (23:09.41), freshman Elizabeth Hix took 11th (23:57.88) and sophomore Mariana Nexticapan Hernandez finished 14th (24:44.78).

Other Wayne results went to senior Kennasyn Blecke (20th - 25:51.49), senior Josie Ley (22nd - 25:53.43), sophomore Karla Wynia (29th - 27:39.19), sophomore Hannah Brogren (40th - 30:17.06) and senior Sharon Vasquez (44th - 37:52.55). 

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge top medalists were posted by senior Kate Tasler in runner-up (22:17.49), junior Faith Galvin followed in third (22:43.6), sophomore Leah Gould placed sixth (23:18.44) and senior Addy Hoeppner finished 13th (24:16.83).

Other results for the Bears came from sophomore Ava Christiansen (16th - 25:07.34) and junior Abbie Brummels (19th - 25:36.11).

The Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) girls finished fourth (72 pts) and were led by senior Rachael Bousquet in ninth (23:32.7) and senior Alejandra Hermosillo followed in 12th (24:14.76).

Other Wolfpack results came from sophomore Chloe Peters (27th - 27:10.94) and sophomore Hailey Millard (33rd - 28:48.69).

Wakefield had no team scoring but were led by junior Jamie Lopez (23rd - 25:56.77), junior Jennifer Hernandez (30th - 28:29.03) and junior Natalie Zuniga Hernandez (36th - 29:27.91). 

Winside results came from junior Aleah Bilstein (21st - 25:53.32) and freshman Leah Uttecht (31st - 28:32.95).

During the boys division, the Wayne boys finished eighth through 11th led by juniors Emmanuel Gonzalez (18:42.41), Camden Hall (19:05.61), Alvaro Archundia (19:09.89) and Landen Claussen (19:11.94).

Other Blue Devil results came from freshman Colston Starzl (16th - 19:54.12), junior Gabriel Armstrong (17th - 20:03.19), junior Thomas Raymundo (19th - 20:24.77), senior Boden Dobbins (21st - 20:32.04), junior Lance Brink (24th - 20:40.03), sophomore Grady Maas (30th - 21:45.72), senior Aidan Bohnert (32nd - 21:54.11), freshman Daniel Kuchta (39th - 22:53.26), freshman Jacob Fehringer (40th - 23:00.7), freshman Gerson Torres (42nd - 23:17.48), sophomore Ethan Samuelson (46th - 23:43.29), sophomore Hudson Rubendall (47th - 23:55.82), junior Julian Garcia Morales (48th - 24:01.79), freshman Isaiah Zarate (51st - 24:32.92), freshman Dreu Jensen (53rd - 24:46.53), junior Cale Eischeid (55th - 24:58.53), senior Jaxon Lindner (57th - 25:38.39), freshman Max Brink (60th - 26:01.92), junior Bryan Hernandez (66th - 28:49.83), freshman Clifton Kaup (68th - 29:13.38) and sophomore Hugo Reyes (74th - 38:57.29).

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys took fourth (90) and were led by senior Shane Langford in 22nd (20:33.33) and freshman Owen Johnson followed in 29th (21:30.93).

Other results for the Bears came from sophomore Sebastian Van Drongelen (31st - 21:49.36), junior Hunter McGhee (37th - 22:36.58), junior Luke Jackson (65th - 27:35.36), junior Dillion Sanderson (67th - 28:49.84) and senior Oscar Salas (69th - 29:34.48). 

The Tri County Northeast boys finished fifth (95) and were led by a 13th place medal from junior Jude Ridenour (19:37.87).

Other Wolfpack results came from senior Alex Snyder (20th - 20:27.24), sophomore Tucker Anderson (49th - 24:17.5), freshman Logan Kraemer (58th - 25:50.53) and junior Matthew Bousquet (63rd - 27:17.11).

No team scoring was posted by Wakefield who were led by junior Will Benson (23rd - 20:37.54) and junior Baldwin Garcia (50th - 24:27.15).

Winside's lone runner was junior Ben Uttecht (73rd - 33:03.48). 

Senior Brenden Bolling from Pierce won the boys varsity 5k in a time of 17:30.53 among the 74 runners.

In the junior high division, Wayne held off Norfolk Catholic (11-14) in the girls team standings as Schuyler (18 pts) won the junior high boys team race over Norfolk Catholic (23 pts).

Wayne JH girls were led by  a runner-up finish from eighth grader Hadley Dunklau in a time of 13:06.7, eighth grader Sarah Kuchta followed in third (13:26.14) as seventh graders Kiley Dutcher (14:35.24), Schyler Wiseman (14:56.99) and Marissa Brink (15:00.06) placed sixth through eighth. 

Other Blue Devil junior high results were posted by seventh grader Alexis Ptacek (12th - 15:40.42), seventh grader Cora Surber (13th - 15:44.35), eighth grader Rose Kaup (14th - 15:51.17), eighth grader Alyssa Bargholz (16th - 16:08.03), eighth grader Pashynce Owens-Webb (17th - 16:11.13), seventh grader Konstynce Owens-Webb (19th - 16:18.51), seventh grader AnaBelle Cook (23rd - 16:57.55) and seventh grader Gracie Naeve (39th - 21:02.58). Eighth grader Molly Allemann did not start. 

The LCC JH girls placed fourth (52 pts) and were led by seventh grader Autumn Funk (22nd - 16:31.54), eighth grader Ruby Tasler (27th - 17:56.76) and eighth grader Anna Lipp (30th - 18:56.73).

The Winside girls placed fifth (57 pts) and were led by eighth grader MaKenna Thies (25th - 17:18.87), eighth grader Phebe Uttecht (37th - 20:29.57) and seventh grader Irelynn Pearson (40th - 22:02.25).

The Wayne Junior High boys scored 24 points to place third and were led by seventh grader Calvin Lipp in runner-up (12:15.88) and eighth grader Benjamin Patefield placed eighth (13:00.1).

Other Blue Devil results came from eighth grader Owen Wynia (18th - 14:02.41), seventh grader Tyson Hoffman (25th - 14:51.47), seventh grader Callen Sims (38th - 18:08.78), seventh grader Mason Mendez (40th - 18:36.97) and seventh grader Grant Law (48th - 23:12.06).

The LCC JH boys took sixth (60 pts) and were led by eighth grader Jeremiah Kinkaid (14th - 13:46.02), eighth grader Caden Barnes (36th - 17:27.03), seventh grader Drake Jairam (41st - 19:01.27), seventh grader Grant Brummels (42nd - 19:08.22), seventh grader Corbin Garcia (45th - 19:53.11), seventh grader Easton Gould (46th - 20:08.85) and eighth grader Josh Tarno (47th - 20:44.23).

The Tri County Northeast junior high boys were led by seventh grader Michael Ridenour (just missing the medal stand) at 11th in a time of 13:23.63 as eighth grader Alan Figueroa was closely behind in 13th (13:35.74). 

Eighth grader Mercy Kann from Norfolk Catholic was crowned champion on the girls 3k course during a time of 12:32.16 among the 42 runners. 

Eighth grader Dominic Kastl from Norfolk Catholic won the boys 3k race in a time of 11:50.31 among the 49 runners.

Tri County Northeast, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Winside will all travel to Twin Creek Golf Course for the Pender Invite on Thursday, September 18 at 4:30 p.m.

An upcoming cross country race for Wayne will be the Crofton Invite on Thursday, September 25 at 4:30 p.m.

The Wakefield cross country program is off until Thursday, September 25 at the North Bend Invite.
