It was off to the course for all five Wayne Herald cross country programs as three were in one location.
From the Hartington-Newcastle Invite on Aug. 27, Laurel-Cocord-Coleridge captured runner-up in the girls division (31 pts) while the LCC boys placed ninth (139).
In the girls division, top LCC medalists were Faith Galvin finishing with bronze (21:40.5) as Leah Gould followed in eighth (23:18). Justice Olson (12th - 23:41.1) and Ava Christiansen (14th - 23:57.1) were both awarded a medal inside the top 15.
During boys action, Owen Johnson just missed out on a medal in 19th (20:03.6) to lead LCC.
Members of the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge/Tri County Northeast girls golf program joined a total of 52 golfers during the Wayne High girls invite on Aug. 28.
From the Wayne Country Club, LCC placed fifth (434).
Harper Bruning from LCC was crowned individual champion with an 85 while teammate Alyza Leonard placed 14th (105).
A trio of matches were on the docket for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyball to start the year.
From Laurel, the host Bears swept West Holt (25-13, 25-17) but were swept by Battle Creek (22-25, 22-25) during a home triangular on Aug. 27.
During the Sept. 1 road outing, LCC took advantage with a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-11, 25-16) at Ponca.
The Bears open the season at 2-1.
Top performers from the home triangular over West Holt were Rena Rasmussen with 11 kills and four digs while Carlie Kvols began the season with 16 assists, six digs, a kill and an ace.
At Ponca, Rasmussen recorded a double-double with 29 kills and 18 digs.
Friday night lights began in late August for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
From Laurel, the host Bears won 36-24 over Creighton on Aug. 28 to start the year at 1-0.
The air attack was key from Paxton Hoeppner finishing 16-for-26 for 158 yards and three touchdowns.
The ground game was led by Tanner Thompson with 16 carries for 81 yards and two scores. He also hauled in a team-high six passes for 97 yards and one score.
Defensively, Dayton Korth recorded a team-high 12 tackles (eight solo) with one tackle for loss.
