High temperatures affected several athletic events in early September which led to the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys cross country program running earlier in the morning instead of an evening race.
Previously scheduled for Beemer at 5 p.m., the Wisner-Pilger Invite was moved to Wisner River Park with a 9:30 a.m. start time on Sept. 3.
The LCC varsity girls team won their division with 22 points while LCC varsity boys placed 10th with 164 points.
In the girls division, Faith Galvin took home the gold medal for LCC in 20:33.5 among the 79 runners.
During the boys division, Owen Johnson just missed the top 15 placers with a 17th place finish (18:32.7) to lead Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
A single invitational was on the schedule for the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls golf program.
From Elkhorn Acres Golf Club, the Stanton Invite attracted 50+ golfers on Sept. 3.
Among the six teams with full team-scoring, the Bears finished fifth with a 471.
Alyza Leonard captured a silver medal with a 99 while Harper Bruning finished fifth with a 106 for the Bears.
A second weeknight match was on the docket for Laurel-Conocord-Coleridge volleyball.
Back in Laurel on Sept. 3, LCC made quick work of Elkhorn Valley in a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-13, 25-18).
LCC is now 3-1 on the season.
Double-doubles were posted by Rena Rasmussen with 16 kills and 11 digs while Kaida Eriksen recorded 13 digs and 10 kills.
No scoring was needed in the final quarter of play between Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Niobrara/Verdigre during week two action of Class D2 high school football.
From Verdigre on Sept. 4, LCC jumped ahead thanks to a 22-6 first quarter and didn't look back taking the 56-14 victory to improve to 2-0.
Paxton Hoeppner led the air attack going 8-for-15 for 136 yards and two passing touchdowns. He added two rushes for 18 yards and a touchdown
