LCC wins at Tri County Northeast off big night from Puppe and Tanner Thompson

Two Wayne Herald coverage area teams went to battle in northeast Nebraska during week three of the high school football season.

From Emerson, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge picked up a 48-8 win at Tri County Northeast on Sept. 12.

LCC is now 1-2 as the Wolfpack fell to 0-3.

Sophomore Drey Puppe accounted for five touchdowns as junior Tanner Thompson was in on three scores.

The Bears opened scoring in the first quarter thanks to a five-yard run from Puppe who also followed with a one-yard score later in the quarter.

Puppe caught a 26-yard pass thrown by junior Talon Carson to put LCC up 22-0 in the second quarter.

Tri County Northeast scoring came from sophomore Logan Morgan on a 70-yard kickoff return (junior Blake Kneifl on the two-point conversion catch from senior Thatcher Lamp).

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge closed the first half on a 38-yard touchdown run by Tanner Thompson and Puppe completed an 11-yard pass to sophomore Paxton Hoeppner for a touchdown to lead 35-8 at the half.

The only points in the second half were scored by Tanner Thompson on a 13-yard catch from Puppe and Tanner Thompson found pay dirt from six yards both in the third quarter.

LCC was 1-2 on two point conversions with Paxton Hoeppner scoring while Puppe converted 4-5 PATs.

Puppe finished 6-9 for 57 yards and two passing touchdowns along with two rushing scores on 13 carries for 68 yards. He also accounted for a 26-yard touchdown reception.

Carson went 2-3 for 28 yards and one score. He also finished with two rushes for nine yards.

Tanner Thompson led the backfield on the ground with 73 yards on six rushes and two scores along with five receptions for 46 yards and one score. Sophomore Dayton Korth ran the ball 15 times for 56 yards.

Paxton Hoeppner added an 11-yard touchdown reception.

Korth led the Bears with eight tackles (three solo), a tackle for loss and fumble recovery while Tanner Thompson tacked on four tackles (three solo).

Senior Dillon Munter (three tackles, two solo) and freshman Bryson Urwiler (two solo tackles) both tallied a tackle for loss.

Tri County Northeast's Lamp finished 1-6 for 30 yards and ran the ball 11 times for 36 yards (long of 10). Kneifl was on the receiving end of the 20 yards.

Sophomore Braxten Sebade added 11 yards on five carries.

Thatcher Lamp also led the Wolfpack defense with 10 tackles (five solo) while Kneifl followed with nine tackles (four solo).

Sebade added eight tackles (three solo).

Additional stats came from junior Atlee Anderson blocking a kick and senior Dodge Melby recovering a fumble.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will return to Laurel to host Lutheran High Northeast while Tri County Northeast will next visit Pender. Both games will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.
