High school cross country took over the Hartington Golf Club on August 28 where area runners competed in both 5k and 2,000-meter races.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls captured a runner-up finish scoring 33 points (Homer won with 20 points) while the LCC boys placed third out of eight teams with 53 points (Homer won with 30 points).
The Wakefield girls placed fifth out of the seven teams with 95 points (no boys team scoring).
In the girls division, the Bears placed four runners inside the top 15 led by Kate Tasler in fifth (22:31.23).
Faith Galvin took ninth (23:12.98), followed by Leah Gould in 10th (23:28.56) and Addy Hoeppner placed 14th (23:53.65). Other LCC results came from Abbie Brummels (19th - 24:40.59) and Ava Christiansen (24th - 25:12.84).
The Wakefield girls were led by Jamie Lopez in 25th (25:18.68) as well as Angie Gomez who took 38th (28:14.25).
Other Trojan results came from Natalie Zuniga Hernandez (42nd - 28:26.84), Jennifer Hernandez (46th - 29:09.46) and Katelyn Walsh (50th - 30:12.2).
Ponca's Ava Brennan won the girls 5k (20:56.67) among the 59 runners.
During the boys division, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge leaders were Shane Langford in sixth (19:21.65), Owen Johnson took 14th (20:45.22) and Sebastian Van Drongelen followed in 15th (20:51.03).
Other results came from Hunter McGhee (29th - 22:38.87), Luke Jackson (50th - 26:23.02), Dillion Sanderson (55th - 27:55.41) and Oscar Salas (58th - 28:04.6).
Wakefield's medal went to Will Benson in eighth (20:06.1) as Baldwin Garcia did not start.
Ponca's Gannon Pfister won the boys 5k (18:39.38) among the 58 runners.
In the mixed 2,000-meter run, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge placed third overall with 44 points (Hartington-Newcastle won a tie breaker over Homer both with 11 team points).
LCC junior high boys were led by Rhett Eggers in 11th (10:11.93) and Jeremiah Kinkaid in 14th (10:44.31).
Other results came from Liam Recob (18th - 10:56.85), Jaxon Hoeppner (19th - 10:59.24), Ryker Settje (22nd - 11:06.54), Caden Barnes (33rd - 13:11.87), Drake Jairam (34th - 13:28.56), Corbin Garcia (37th - 13:50.8), Grant Brummels (38th - 14:11.9), Easton Gould (41st - 14:44.66) and Josh Tarno (42nd - 15:06.96).
The top LCC junior high girl runner was Autumn Funk in 15th (12:09.95).
Other results came from Tenlie Christiansen (20th - 12:50.93), Aizlynn Kossler (24th - 13:23.42), Ruby Tasler (25th - 13:26.63), Peyton Benson (36th - 15:21.58), Anna Lipp (37th - 15:25.96) and Stella Graham (41st - 16:01.15).
Homer's Tonny Reed was the top junior high boy finisher (8:50.86) as Cara Hoffman from Osmond-Plainview won the junior high girls race (10:18.27). There were 43 junior high girls and 45 junior high boys who competed.
Both Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Wakefield will next compete in the Wisner-Pilger Invite on Thursday, September 4 at 5 p.m. The races will take place at Indian Trail Country Club in Beemer.
