"After 4 years of writing, I was finally in a place to share with others the poetry that came from my personal struggles and healing," said Angie Hansen of her recently published book of poems.
Last July, Hansen sent her manuscript to The Poetry Box in Portland, Oregon. It is a boutique publishing company that provides a platform for both established and emerging poets.
Within a month, Shawn Aveningo Sanders, the editor, emailed Hansen to let her know that the company had accepted her manuscript for publication.
"I was thrilled! This was a lifelong dream of mine. They were absolutely amazing to work with, from layout to cover design to printer," Hansen said.
She continued, "the countryside surrounding my acreage inspired many of my poems and helped me process the deep hurt I had experienced that I just could not talk about. Nature provided me with the opportunity to tell my story from the point of view of the prairie, or a season, or a relic of the past. The imagery in my poetry captures the strength and often harsh reality of the prairie and how it affects my own soul. From country churches to thunderstorms to harvest, I paint vivid pictures of Nebraska and the unrelenting, beautiful existence I have chosen to see here. Grounded in the passing of the seasons, both physically and mentally, these poems chronicle my journey along, over, and around the fencelines of my past."
"I hope its raw emotion and prairie imagery resonates with my readers," Hansen said of her book.
Hansen said she is excited to share with everyone her chapbook, Fencelines, which can be found locally at The Flower Cellar, WW Galore, and The Wayne Greenhouse, or on Amazon or Barnes & Noble, for $14.
