Several top young Nebraska golfers competed in the 23rd annual Nebraska Lions High School Senior All-Star Golf Tournament including an LCC and Wayne High talent.

From the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, the two-day, 36-hole tourney was held June 23 -24.

Participating in this event was All Star Clara Brummels, a 2025 graduate from Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

Wayne High graduate golfers included Joslyn Johnson and Charli Sievers.

The event invited the top 30 boys and 30 girls from the 2025 graduation class to golf in the event.

Since 2002 over 800 golfers have participated in the event.  Golfers got to choose a caddie for the event and got to play with the best from the class of 2025.

The golfers golfed 36 holes to determine the champion between the two days.

Golfers started on June 23 with tee times on hole one with a little rain and mist.

The girls played well on day one and set themselves up for round two.

The Lions also hosted a recognition supper on June 23 for all the golfers and their families at Centennial Park.

The weather improved on June 24 and the girls all started at 8 am with a shotgun start.

After two days of golf, Kara Suchsland (Minden) finished first with a 2-day score of 151 followed by Amelia Ptacnik (Holdrege) 168 and then Joslyn Johnson (Wayne) 169.

Sievers finished 10th and Brummels finished 13th.

"It was so cool to see these three seniors play one more time together," said Wayne High girls golf coach Josh Johnson. "They have had a great high school career.  The Lions put on a great tournament and really make it special for all the Seniors invited."

The Nebraska Lions began the event in 2002 as a youth-oriented project -- to date over 830  All-Star golfers have competed.

Because there were already all-star games in football, basketball, softball and soccer, Lions thought golf would be a great sport to reach other young athletes.

Focusing on the family, All-Stars were allowed to have caddies (moms, dads, brothers, sisters, etc.), plus family and friends were allowed to follow the All-Stars as they made their rounds.

With All-Stars from throughout Nebraska, competitors had the opportunity to compete against golfers they normally wouldn’t see.

The boy’s winner was Owen Bartee of Kearney, who shot 145 followed by Drake Hull of Fremont, with a 148.
