Regular City Council meetings
Regular Wayne City Council meetings are at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month in City Hall at 513 Main St. Bring the family; we’d love to entertain you for an evening…and it’s free!
Budget Progress – Tax Asking and Work Sessions
The City Council approved two requests at its last meeting to allocate a certain amount of property taxes collected by the City to the Wayne Municipal Airport and the Community Redevelopment Authority (CRA).
The airport will receive $100,876 in fiscal year ’27 while the CRA will receive $0.026 of the mil levy (which depending on the assessed value for the City could be just short of $110,000 for the year). The airport uses its funds for operations as well as to pledge toward grant funds to make improvements to the airport grounds. The CRA uses its funds to continue to redevelop areas in the community, mainly by buying and then selling property to developers.
The Council has held its budget work session for the 2026-2027 budget.
Beth Porter, Finance Director, gave a brief background of the budget preparation with the department heads the last month or two, the anticipated property valuations, how the general debt levy plays into city financing, and some of the revenue losses possible for the year.
The Council asked questions of some of the department heads pertaining to their budget requests. Council had most discussion about some discretionary sales tax money it had for parks and recreation and capital expenses from departments (ie police equipment paid for by sales tax).
Besides the staff…there were two (2) members of the public present at the work session. That is two more than we had last year! Remember you are always welcome to attend any and all public meetings.
If you have questions about the budget process as it plays out in the next 4-6 weeks, stop in and chat with Beth or me. We are more than willing to go over the budget…big picture revenues/expenses or operations by line items.
Properties for Sale owned by the City or CRA
The City and the Community Redevelopment Authority (CRA) have various properties for sale in the community. Contact City Hall or the Wayne America office to inquire about what properties are available. (Many of these have for sale signs on the property.) If you prefer to do research online, you can find many of these properties at wayneamerica.org/economic-development/sites-buildings/.
1100 E 10th Street Project Survey
The consultant, JEO, is still taking community input on the property at 1100 E 10th Street through an online survey.
This survey data, along with pop up events, focus groups and a townhall meeting, will assist JEO and the mayoral appointed advisory committee to narrow the scope of what to do with said property. JEO will have a preliminary recommendation to the Council by the end of November, with a final recommendation by the end of December.
