Wakefield's first-year cross country program is nearing the end and were able to compete in the East Husker Conference Championships.
From Northridge Country Club in Tekamah, the Trojan girls finished sixth with 73 points while no team scoring was recorded for the Wakefield boys.
In the girls division, junior Jamie Lopez earned an 11th place medal in 24:33.69 to lead the Trojans.
Other results came from junior Natalie Zuniga Hernandez (26th - 26:52.83), junior Angie Gomez (28th - 28:08.84), junior Jennifer Hernandez (31st - 29:34.08) and sophomore Katelyn Walsh (34th - 29:58.29).
Wisner-Pilger won the EHC team race with 34 points ahead of Stanton in second (39) among the six full teams..
Junior Azlynn Johnson from Stanton was crowned East Husker Conference champion in the girls 5k in a time of 20:54.73 among the 47 runners.
During the boys division, junior William Benson collected a 12th place medal in 20:06.31 to lead Wakefield.
Fellow junior Baldwin Garcia finished 29th (22:01.06).
Stanton won the EHC team race with 35 points ahead of Humphrey in second (42) among the 10 full teams..
Senior Miciah Mohrman from Humphrey/Lindsay was crowned East Husker Conference champion in the boys 5k in a time of 18:49.73 among the 65 runners.
The Wakefield girls and boys cross country program will next race at the D-2 District Championships on Thursday, Oct. 16 from Skyview Lake in Norfolk. The girls race will start at 4:30 p.m. followed by the boys.
