Lydia M. Metzler, 79 of Wakefield, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023 at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at Journey Christian Church in Wayne. Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Journey Christian Church.

Memorials may be directed to Lydia’s family for later designation.

Lydia Marie (Tilson) Metzler was born April 27, 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia to Estle and LaVona (Blunk) Tilson.  Lydia was a devoted wife to her husband for over 50 years and a loving mother to her children and grandchildren. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her family and into the lives of the many children she cared for at her daycare. Her passion for nurturing the next generation was evident in the countless lives she impacted. She lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family and the families she cared for over the years. Her kind and caring nature touched the hearts of all who knew her and she will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her sons, Scott Metzler of Jefferson City, Missouri,  Brad (Jeannie) Metzler of Omaha, Tony (Jackie) Metzler of Gilbert, Arizona, Troy (Esmeralda) Metzler of Chandler, Arizona, Chad (Susan) Metzler of Wayne; daughter, Sarah (Jim) Rusk of Omaha; sisters, Martha (Larry) Brodersen of Wayne, Carolyne Nelson of Commerce City, Colorado, Tally Schmidt of Tekamah, Diana Tomlinson of Bloomington, Illinios; brothers, Frank (Michelle) Tilson of Tekamah, Kevin Tilson of Tekamah, Terry (Robin) Tilson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Joel Tilson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel; parents, Estle and LaVona Tilson; in-laws, Roy and Dorothy Metzler; brother, Estle Tilson; sister-in-law, Mona Eriksen and brother-in-law, Delbert Metzler.
