Mardelle (Baker) Hallstrom, 81, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Wayne, died Sunday, July 9, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas.
Private graveside services will be held Saturday, July 29 at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wayne. Memorial visitation will be held Friday, July 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne with family present.
Memorials may be directed to the Orphan Grain Train.
Mardelle M. (Baker) Hallstrom was born on July 29, 1941 and grew up on her parents’ farm near Concord. She was baptized on Aug. 17, 1941 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on June 20, 1954. In 1958 she graduated from Wakefield High School. On Aug. 7, 1960, she married Verneil Hallstrom at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. To that union, three children were born: Scott (Veronica) Hallstrom, Jeff (Kris) Hallstrom, and Karen (Todd) Campbell. After living in Vermillion South Dakota, Omaha, Wakefield, and Wayne, Mardelle moved to an assisted living facility in San Antonio, Texas to be near her daughter.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, along with eight grandchildren: Jill Hallstrom, Zachary Hallstrom, Morgan Campbell, Alex Hallstrom, McKenzie Hallstrom, Emily Hallstrom, Ian Campbell and Mikayla Campbell; along with six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verneil on July 1, 2011; parents, Wilbur and Lucille Baker, brother, Donald Baker, and granddaughter, Alicia Joy Hallstrom.
