Marvin sets new school mark at SDSU Invite

Mikayla Marvin took first place in the pole vault with a new school record mark of 10 feet, 8 3/4 inches to lead the Wayne State women’s indoor track and field team Friday at the South Dakota State Division II Invitational, held at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.

Marvin’s mark eclipsed the previous school mark of 10-8 set by Katie Malander in 2004.

In other field events, Tia Jones took fifth in the shot put (43-2 1/4) with Jadin Wagner placing 10th (41-1 1/2). Brooklynn Chipps was sixth in the weight throw at 54-2 followed by Mckenzie Scheil in seventh (53-9) and Nicole Heeren in ninth at 50-6.

Riana Noelle was eighth in the triple jump (33-8) and ninth in the long jump (16-2 1/2).

Marin Jetensky came in ninth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:41.74, Amanda Mote took ninth place in the 3,000-meter run (12:17.71), Jordyn Pester was 11th in the 200-meter dash at 26.34 and Kim Lowman took 12th in the 800-meter run at 2:27.20.

The Wildcat 1,600-meter relay team of Jordyn Pester, Joan Jelimo, Molli Vasa and Petensky placed fourth with a time of 4:06.60.

In men’s action, Dylan Kaup placed second in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 59-7 1/2 to highlight the Wildcat men’s effort.

Other Wildcats that placed in the event were Matt Nemec finishing eighth (50-7 1/2) and Richard Sweeney tying for 10th at 50-5 1/4.

Ben Allen posted a third place finish in the shot put at 52-0 3/4 while sprinter Alvyns Alcenord came in fourth place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05 seconds.

Mikhail Sands came in fifth place in the long jump with a top mark of 21-0. Robert Sullivan posted an eighth place finish in the pole vault (13-6 1/2) and was 10th in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.72 seconds.

Brock Hegarty recorded a 10th place finish in the mile run (4:28.15), Nathan Pearson was 11th in the 800-meter run at 1:58.02 with teammate Bryce Holcomb was 13th in a time of 1:58.25.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Preston Davis, Kyle Lowe, Bryce Holcomb and Nathan Pearson took sixth place with a time of 3:28.30.

Wayne State’s next meet will be Friday and Saturday at the Minnesota State Open in Mankato, Minn.
