Mary A. Wert, 86, of Wayne died Friday, March 15, 2024 at Wayne Countryview Care in Wayne.
A public Celebration of Life with private burial will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Mary Ann Wert was born Nov. 23, 1937 on a farm near Wakefield to William Edward and Molinda Emma Caroline (Hansen) Korth. She attended country school in Dixon County and was a 1955 graduate of Wayne High School. Mary and Richard “Dick” Wert were married March 25, 1956 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. After farming for several years and living in Wenatchee, Washington for a short time, Dick, Mary and family moved into Wayne, where they resided for the rest of their lives. Over the years, Mary was employed in Wayne at Rexall Drug, the Wayne Care Center, and then the Fat Kat. She worked as a custodian at Wayne State College for 30 years until her retirement. She was a former member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne and the Wayne Eagles Club Aerie #3757.
Survivors include her daughter, Christine Costa of Wayne; daughter-in-law, Sheila Wert of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Andrew (Samantha) Costa, Nic Costa, Amber (Corey) Schlines, Paul Wert, Lindsey Costa, Joshua (Felipa) Wert, Christopher Wert, Heather Wert; six great-grandchildren, Olivia Schlines, Emelia Schlines, Isabella Schlines, Elora Costa, Zachary Wert and Raelynn Wert; sisters, Mylet Nicholson of Wakefield and Judy (Larry) Echtenkamp of Wayne; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wert of Wayne, and Judy Wert of Cushing Wyoming; former son-law, Dennis Costa of Coronado, California; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick in 1989; son, Tim Wert, in 2022; sister, Verna Mae Longe; brother, Harland Korth; a grandson, Joel Wert; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Wert, Gary Wert, Alvin Longe and J. Benton Nicholson; sisters-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Wert and Susie (Richard “Dick”) Schmitt; and parents-in-law, Melvin John and Evelyn Florence (Ross) Wert.
