Melvin Henry Wilson, 83, of Wayne, formerly of Wakefield, died Sunday, June 26, 2022.  

Services will be held Friday, July 1 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning at the church and will run until the time of the funeral service.  Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. 

Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the services. 

Melvin was born July 3, 1938, the son of Joe and Alvena Greve Wilson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church south of Wakefield. He attended rural elementary school and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1955.

On July 6, 1958 Melvin married Betty Roth at St. John’s Lutheran Church rural Pender. Melvin and Betty lived and farmed in Wayne County until moving to Wayne in 2016.

Melvin was a life-long farmer who enjoyed woodworking and loved to go dancing, play cards, and golf. Melvin was a 4-H leader, usher and elder in his church, and served on the Farm Service Agency committee. He and Betty wintered in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico for 23 years.

Survivors include wife, Betty, of Wayne; daughters, Renee Wilson of Wakefield, daughter, Rhonda and Marvin Hansen, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rita and Kendall Paulsen, of Des Arc, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Erin Fleury, Tara and Cam Cookenmaster, Evan and Ashley Bartels, Abby Paulsen, Mara Hansen and John Palmasano, Allie and Christopher Fiorello, and Owen and Odalys Paulsen; and 10 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Jordyn, and Rhett Fleury; Blakely, Cole and Demi Bartels; Violet and Abraham Fiorello; and Adaline and Jaelani Paulsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
