Melvina “Melvy” L. Meyer, 94, of Wayne, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 at her home at Wayne Countryview Estates.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Memorials may be directed to Mercy Meals, The Lutheran Hour or The Orphan Grain Train.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Melvina Lucille (Streblow) Meyer was born May 22, 1930 on the farm northeast of Tarnov, Nebraska to Carl and Elsie (Hoefelmann) Streblow. She was baptized July 27, 1930, confirmed June 10, 1945, and attended school in Tarnov. She married Leon Meyer of Wayne on June 11, 1952, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Humphrey.   

“Melvy” and her husband Leon ran the Altona store for 21 years.  When Leon became Wayne County Treasurer they moved to Wayne and Melvy did different jobs. She quilted and tied quilts for missions and helped at the Orphan Grain Train. Melvy was a member of the Ladies Aid and Duo Club at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. She also was a member of Ladies Aid in Altona at First Trinity Lutheran Church. Melvy enjoyed playing pitch, cooking, and baking. She was known for making the best kolaches and pies.

Survivors include her children, Tim (Susan) Meyer of Norfolk and Larry (Sue) Meyer of Omaha; four grandchildren,  Mike (Megan) Meyer Jennifer (Tim) Geary, Matthew (Katie) Meyer, Todd (Colee) Meyer; nine great-grandchildren, Jackson, Baeron, Maddon, Andeline, Aidan, Samuel, Kirby, Nora and Charlie; sister-in-law Lois Streblow and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon, in October 2019; four sisters and one brother.
