Metz ties 28-year-old school record for WSC track

Junior Brady Metz tied a 28-year-old school record in the triple jump at the Concordia Invitational Friday evening in Seward, while other Wildcats competed Friday and Saturday at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic in Brookings, S.D.

Metz took first in the triple jump to lead Wildcat jumpers at the Concordia Invitational in Seward on Friday, recording a leap of 48 feet, 4 1/2 inches that was an NCAA provisional mark, tying the school record set by Mark Vollmer in the 1988 season. Metz also finished third place in the long jump at 22-2 1/4.

Other top performers at the Concordia Invite saw Josh Spenner take fifth in the pole vault (15-5), Nick Schmit was sixth in the 800-meter run (2:01.40) and Travis Eller finished 10th in the 600-meter run (1:26.10).

Top Friday finishers for Wayne State at the SDSU Indoor Classic included Nick Fly placing 18th in the 1,000-meter run (2:36.68) while Clay Kramper was 18th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.31 seconds.

Saturday’s top performer in Brookings was Antoine Bardou, who took third place in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:52.50, hitting an NCAA provisional mark.

In women’s action, top finishers for at Concordia included Shelby Roth taking fifth in the high jump at 5-1 while Riana Noelle came in seventh in the triple jump (34-8 1/2) and 14th in the long jump with a top mark of 15-2 3/4.

At the South Dakota State Indoor Classic, senior Melissa Kroll posted an 11th-place finish in the 600-meter dash at 1:37.52.

Wayne State will compete at a pair of indoor meets Friday, Feb. 17, participating at the Husker Tune-up Invite in Lincoln and the South Dakota Last Chance Invite at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion.
