October has seen an exciting change at the Wayne Municipal Airport.
Travis Meyer has stepped down from the Airport Authority Board to assume the duties of airport manager. Cale Giese, the Mayor of Wayne, has appointed Nick Hawthorne to fill the vacancy on the Airport Authority Board left by Meyer’s departure.
Hawthorne, a lifelong Wayne resident, is eminently qualified to fill the vacancy left by Meyer as he is an active pilot holding a complex aircraft endorsement and an Instrument pilot rating. When asked Nick said, “I am excited to take on this adventure.
Travis and Lisa Meyer will move into the residence located on the airport property which will facilitate the performance of Travis’s duties as airport manager under Becker Flying Services, LLC the FBO of the Wayne Airport.
Travis is an active pilot, FAA certified ground school instructor and in pursuing a FAA certified flight instructor rating. Lisa Meyer, daughter of Bill (of Sons of Satan) and Rhonda Blecke, is a kindergarten teacher at Wayne Public Schools.
Both Travis and Lisa have great love of aviation and are excited for the challenge of continuing development and maintenance of the Wayne Municipal Airport. The Meyer’s will be responsible for maintaining the airport property which include mowing, snow removal, and other facilities maintenance activities.
Among other exciting changes occurring at the airport is a new event. Coffee, doughnuts, airplane rides, and The Redbird FMX full motion simulator experience will become a regular event the first Saturday morning of each month from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM beginning Nov. 4. The event is open to all ages 16 and above. Airplane flights will occur if weather permits.
