Michael G. Nelson, 55 of Yankton, South Dakota, formerly of Wayne, died Monday, June 17, 2024 in Yankton.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 25 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Wakefield. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 24 at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Wakefield.
Memorials may be directed to Michael’s family for later designation.

Michael Gary Nelson, son of Gary and Vernell (Echtenkamp) Nelson was born May 10, 1969 in North Platte. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School and Southeast Community College in Lincoln. Mike married Tracie Nilges at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Wakefield April 7, 1990. Through the years, Mike drove truck, both over the road and locally for Circle E Grain in Belden and Wiebelhaus Trucking in Fordyce, plus the Fremont, Randolph, and Gretna areas. In the later years, he worked at Michael Foods in Wakefield as a shag driver and drove a school bus for Wayne and Wakefield schools.
Survivors include his daughters, Amber (Matt) Roeber of Wayne and their children, Ruger, Kimber and baby boy Roeber due in September, and Taylor Nelson of Fremont; son, Zach (Myah) Nelson of Fremont and their children, Lilyana and Delilah; close friend, Shannon Green; parents, Gary and Vernell Nelson of Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tracie, in 1992; sister, Marcia McCall in 2022; grandparents, Albert and Edna Echtenkamp and Carl and Helen Nelson.
