Dan Mitchell, a Wayne native and former Wayne High School (1980) and Wayne State College (1984 and 1989) graduate and current Wayne State College Instructor at the Center for Applied Technology, was inducted into the South Dakota High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, during the 55th Annual Awards Ceremony at the Mitchell Performing Arts Center in Mitchell, South Dakota.
The Hall of Fame is the highest award given by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association.
Mitchell spent 34 years teaching and coaching at Yankton High School, beginning in 1985, where he coached wrestling for 10 years and football for 33 years.
As a lifelong teacher and coach, Mitchell has remained active in education and coaching following his retirement from Yankton High School in 2019 teaching at Wayne State Collage and was inducted into the South Dakota Technical Education Association Hall of Fame in 2025. Mitchell also served as a volunteer football coach at Beresford High School in Beresford, South Dakota through 2025.
