The Wayne High Mock Trial Blue team earned a State Runner Up finish at the Nebraska Bar Association State Mock Trial competition on Thursday, following two days of competition.
Wayne defeated Gering, Lincoln Pius X and Kearney Catholic to earn a trip to the Championship match. The Blue Devils lost in a split decision to Duchesne Academy (Omaha) in the Championship match.
Wayne's Blue team, consisting of attorneys Josie Ley, Kennasyn Blecke, and Aidan Bohnert along with witnesses Grace Junck, Adrienne Anderson, Gavin Anderson, Colby Raulston, Gabriel Armstrong and Sophia Spieker, for the second straight year represented Wayne and Region 6 in the Nebraska Bar Association's Mock Trial State Competition at the Sarpy County Courthouse.
Last year, team Blue went undefeated and earned a fourth place finish at State competition.
"We are so proud of these kids. They worked so hard this year and really made this their own. They left it all out there in the courtroom and really put on a show for everyone all year. We will miss the eight seniors immensely but they definitely went out in style. CONGRATS!!!!!" said Coach Josh Johnson
Team member Adrienne Anderson said of her experiences with Mock Trial, "Mock Trial has taught me that you may have to take multiple approaches to fine the effective solution."
"We are so proud of all of our Mock Trial teams. They all represented Wayne so well this season and were so professional throughout the whole process. They put in so many hours preparing this case and really earned this success. A HUGE THANK YOU to our attorney coaches, Judge Bob Ensz and Sandy Brown, in helping us figure out the law part of it all and argue the case. A special thanks to Sandy Brown for all of the hours and personal time she gave up to help all three of these teams," said Coaches Josh Johnson & Berkly Brummond.
