Wayne State senior cornerback Cam Montgomery was named to the 2016 Don Hansen All-Super Region Three Football Team, announced earlier this week by the Don Hansen Football Committee.
Montgomery, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior cornerback from Orlando, Fla., earned second-team honors on the defensive team.
Montgomery was a first-team All-NSIC South Division selection after leading the Wildcat defense in total tackles this season with 74, including 52 solo tackles. He tied for the NSIC lead with six interceptions this season, them most by a Wildcat player since Wilson Hookfin in 1992 hauled in six interceptions. Montgomery’s three interceptions at Bemidji State (Sept. 17) made him just the fourth player in school history to have three interceptions in a single game.
His top game of the season came at Bemidji State, where he also registered a season-high 10 tackles (nine solo). He also had nine tackles and two interceptions vs. Winona State (Oct. 24) and nine tackles (eight solo) at Sioux Falls on Nov. 12.
