A total of six volunteer fire departments were called to a field fire northeast of Wayne just after noon on Monday.
Firefighters from Wayne, Wakefield, Laurel, Concord and Allen-Waterbury provided water and manpower to battle the blaze which was quick to move northeast because of a southwest wind.
In addition, several farmers brought in tractors and discs to help stop the fire from spreading any farther. The Laurel ambulance was also on scene. Water was brought to the scene by Helena Agri-Senterprises, LLC.
No one was injured in the incident, which was caused by burning trash.
